Guide to Andorra Frequently Asked Questions
How Can I Help?
Those nagging questions answered in a click!
I have created a page dedicated to the proposed changes that may be approved before the end of December 2025 but certainly in early 2026. They will affect all new and existing passive applicants so please read carefully
Most people are confused especially with the roll out of EES, Brexit and the special accord status that Andorra has with France and Spain who landlock Andorra. In summary as an Andorran resident you are exempt from the 90 day Schengen maximum stay, but Andorra residents are not yet on the EES system. Please read on for a detailed explanation.
Renewals for passive residents are every 2,2,3 and then10 years and then every 1,2,2,2 and 10 years for Active residents under Category D and employees. French, Spanish and Portuguese nationals differ and after 5 years are renewable every 10 years. Click below for renewal information

It is vitally important that you do because if the bank cannot issue a certificate at renewal you wil be refused residency. I have laid out a case study here, if in any dobt it is the bank that issues the certificate so liaise closely with them to see if they can issue it, and do NOT wait until the last minute.
No, all police certificates must be clean and they will not accept any conviction whatsoever regardless of severity or when it occurred. Previous convictions can be removed depening on country and nature of offence, some are more complicated than other. Please read on for police certificates
It depends. As a new applicant you will be subject to the current law and requirements. So, as it stands a property muct be valued at more than 600K on the title deeds, however this has recently been relaxed an Immigration will now accept an updated valuation from a registered architect, so if the revalue is more than 600K the yes it will count but be aware of the current project of increasing passive resident investments.
From 2014 taxes became a reality and now although still a comfortable 10% with VAT / IGI at 4.5% there are still advantages. As ever though matters are becoming more complicated when it comes to Capital Gains and property purchases and There are various new obligations for all residents and this is best explained here for passive residents
Yes absolutely, there are many advantages such as languages, outdoor sports, crime free environment and various routes available from the Andorran, Spanish and French systems to the Agora International school and now the British School. Please read on for information.
There is a local tax here called the "foc i lloc", probably equivalent to council tax in the UK, but that is where the similarity ends ! The bins are emptied 362 days per year, there is no litter problem, flowers are proudly hanging from each lamp post in summer, and Christmas decorations hang in winter, the roads are snow ploughed before you get up in the morning and are kept open at all times, each village has a summer festival, and generally the Comù ( town council ) responds quickly to complaints and suggestions.
The annual foc i lloc bill for all this? ...................About € 90 per property !
